Weft hair extensions, also known as hand-tied wefts hair extensions or beaded weft hair extensions, are a long, thick band of hair extensions that are sewn in horizontally to a beaded base secured to the natural hair. Wefts are thick in density, offering a very full look.

Why We Love Wefts for Special Events

Wefts create a stunning, voluminous look, and at Palm Beach Salon, we prioritize both beauty and hair health. While more ideal for medium to thick hair, their recent comeback, social media popularity, and dramatic results make them sought after by many.

For fine-haired clients, we recommend a long-term, more sustainable option—Custom Mini Tape-In Extensions. However, for special events or extra volume, a weft can be temporarily added alongside tape-ins, achieving incredible results while preserving hair integrity.

Client's Hair

Hair Density: Fine
Baseline Length: Pixie Cut

Hair Extensions

We do not install wefts on hair this short. We recommend Keratin bonds for hair shorter than 4”.

Hair Density: Medium
Baseline Length: Above ear

Hair Extensions

Approximate Amount: 2 rows
Approximate Extensions length: 16”
Approximate cost (Hair + Install): $1084+

Most brands don’t carry short hair extension lengths, so cutting is necessary. Short hair or extensive layering makes blending harder, so more extensions are required, even for short styles.

Hair Extensions

Approximate Extensions Length: 16
Approximate Cost (Hair + Install): $1780+

For a more seamless transition, achieving a dramatically longer length requires the maximum amount of extensions. We often recommend combining methods, such as Keratin bonds with wefts, to ensure coverage in areas wefts alone can't reach.

Hair that is longer than shoulder length makes for easier transitioning into the extensions. However, the thicker your hair, the more hair extensions you will need to match the density

TYPES OF WEFTS

Hand-Tied Weft
HAND-TIED WEFT

These pre-sized wefts feature a thin, discreet lining for added comfort compared to machine-tied wefts. Multiple wefts are stacked to achieve the desired color, density, length and volume.

Machine-Tied Weft

Machine-made wefts feature a thicker lining, resulting in greater hair density compared to Hand-Tied and Hybrid/Flex Wefts.

Hybrid/Flex Wefts

Lined with a polyurethane material for customizable sizing, Hybrid Wefts are thinner than machine-tied wefts but slightly thicker than Hand-Tied wefts. Like Hand-Tied Wefts, these are stacked to achieve the desired end goal.

MAINTENANCE & CARE

  • Wait 24-48 hours before washing/sweating post installation.
  • Do not go to bed with your hair wet or leave the wefts wet as this can create scalp issues.
  • Avoid over styling the hair on high heat when blow drying/flat ironing/curling.
  • When brushing the extensions, be gentle and avoid tension by working from the bottom up. Hold near the point of attachment while brushing the bottom portion, working your way up. ALWAYS be gentle.
  • Do not brush directly on the point of attachment.
  • Use our Platinum Seamless products- shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioning spray, mask as needed. Apply all products from the mid shaft down.

HAND-TIED WEFT HAIR EXTENSIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long do they last?

On average maintenance is needed every 6-8 weeks. The finer your hair, the sooner you need maintenance (for all systems). The average purchase of new hair is 2x/year.

Do maintenance appointments consist of move ups only?
No, we do not offer move-up-only appointments. At our salon, we prioritize safe and ethical hair extension practices. This system has a higher risk of traction alopecia over time because the wide wefts limit placement options. Repeated tension in the same areas can weaken the hair. To prevent this, we fully remove the wefts during maintenance and reposition them, allowing your natural hair to rest.
Are they safe for fine/thin hair?
This is not our primary recommendation for fine or thin hair. Our Custom tape-in system has consistently been the best semi-permanent option for fragile hair types. However, if a client with delicate hair chooses this method, we recommend wearing it for no more than six months before transitioning to a more suitable system. This extension method is best suited for medium to thick hair and can also be combined with other extension systems for customized results.
What are some variables that can affect my overall cost?
  • Your baseline length– The shorter your hair and the longer you want to go, the more hair extensions will be required.
  • Your baseline density– The thicker your hair, the more hair extensions are needed to match the density.
  • Overall Goal for Volume and Length – If your primary goal is to add volume rather than length, the cost is typically lower. The longer the extensions, the higher the cost as you are paying for the added length.
  • The brand and type of weft you’re matched with.
  • Amount of hair and number of rows needed to attain the end goal.
  • Customized color. Many wefts come in one color; therefore, additional wefts may be needed to attain a highlight/lowlight effect, adding to the overall cost.
  • How well you care for them – Proper at-home maintenance is just as crucial as the expertise of your Hair Extension Specialist. The better you care for your extensions, the longer they will last.
Which weft is right for me?

There are several factors to consider when choosing the best weft extensions, including your budget, natural hair density, texture. etc.

As a general guideline:
For medium-density hair, we recommend a lighter weft such as Hand-Tied, Hybrid, Flex, or Genius Wefts.

For thicker hair, we opt for heavier wefts like Machine-Tied or similar options, as the hair can support more weight.

It’s important to note that not all hair extensions are created equal. and the available options may vary depending on your specific hair type. For example, if your natural hair is fine and curly, we need to match you with curly weft hair extensions. Ideally, we would use Hand Tied curly hair extensions, but if curly Hand Tied extensions are unavailable and only curly Machine Tied extensions are offered, we would select the best option available for your needs.

Since every client’s needs are unique, we take a fully customized approach and offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation to determine the best option for you.

What is the difference between Weft Hair Extensions, handtied hair extensions, IBE- Invisible Beaded Extensions, NBR- Natural Beaded Row Extensions?

“Weft Hair Extensions” is a broad term that refers to the type of hair extension itself. There are various types of wefts, including Hand-Tied Wefts, Machine Wefts, Hybrid Wefts, Flex Wefts, and Genius Wefts, each created in a different way and sometimes branded under specific names. On the other hand, IBE (Invisible Beaded Extensions) and NBR (Natural Beaded Rows) refer to the application technique rather than the hair itself. These methods were developed and marketed by stylists who often sell both their technique and their own brand of hair.

At Palm Beach Salon, we specialize in the traditional sew-in method, a technique we have perfected over the years. While we do not offer IBE or NBR, our knowledge and approach to this system provides customized solutions with natural-looking results.

Can I just send a picture of my hair vs an in-person consultation?

Hair extensions are an investment in yourself, and we’re committed to delivering the best results. While photos can help, they don’t always capture essential details with accuracy like color and density. To ensure clear expectations and a seamless experience, we start every client with a complimentary 30-minute consultation.
